Diluted Bitumen: Physicochemical Properties, Weathering Processes, Emergency Response, and Recovery

چکیده

Bitumen, an unconventional crude oil, has received much attention with the increasing consumption and shrinking storage of conventional oils. Bitumen is highly viscous and, thus, commonly diluted for transportation purposes. Spills bitumen could occur during from reservoirs to refineries via pipeline, rail, marine vessels. Although some laboratory numerical modeling studies have been contributed study spill different aspects, there no systematic review in field yet. Therefore, this first conducted a on types based their physicochemical properties, followed by weathering processes including spreading, evaporation, emulsification, photooxidation, biodegradation, sinking. Second, fate behavior spilled was summarized analyzed. Finally, techniques oil recovery were discussed, as well disposal/treatment oily waste. Currently, rare attempt made turn recovered waste into wealth (reutilization/valorization waste). Using feedstock/processing medium emerging thermochemical conversion technique (hydrothermal liquefaction biomass bio-oil production) recommended. Overall, article state-of-the-art knowledge bitumen, hope create deep understanding researchers, relevant companies, decision makers.

The Politics of Emergency Response and Recovery

On September 21, 1999 the 921 or Chi Chi earthquake struck the centre of Taiwan. The earthquake’s magnitude was ML 7.3, and MW 7.7 and the epicentre depth was 8 km. The earthquake hit at 1:47 am, and left about 2,471 dead and 11,305 seriously injured. Over 10,000 buildings collapsed and direct losses were estimated at US$14 billion. This paper describes some of our preliminary findings on a Nat...

An Embryonic Field of Study: The Aquatic Fate and Toxicity of Diluted Bitumen

Canada has experienced a significant increase in the transport of diluted bitumen (dilbit), a predominant oil sands product that combines bitumen with diluents derived from oil-gas condensates and other proprietary compounds. The proportion of diluent and the chemical composition of dilbit vary to meet seasonal transport requirements. While the toxic effects of a variety of crude and refined oi...

Magmatic Processes : Physicochemical Principles

The viscosities of eight melt compositions in the System albite-H20-F20_1 have been determined at high pressure and temperature. Measurements were performed using the falling sphere method at 1000-1600°C and 2.5 to 22.5 kbar. Fluorine and water strongly decrease the viscosity of albite melt at all pressures and temperatures investigated. The viscosity of a fluorine-bearing albitic melt decrease...

Characterization of Kaolinite ζ Potential for Interpretation of Wettability Alteration in Diluted Bitumen Emulsion Separation

Initial processing of Athabasca oil sands obtained from the water-based extraction process yields stable water-in-bitumen emulsions. When the bitumen is diluted with naphtha to reduce its viscosity and density, partial separation can be obtained with a suitable demulsifier. However, a “rag layer” forms between the clean oil and free water layers. The partially oil-wet kaolinite in clay solids ca...
